Who Decides If You Go To College?

I’ll never forget being 16, and 17, then 18, and repeatedly being bombarded with questions such as

“What college are you going to?”
“What do you want to do for a living?”
“What schools have you toured?”
“You’re taking a gap year…?”
and the all too wonderful

“So what are you gonna do with your life?”

The conversation must change.
Not only is college seldom a necessity, far too often it is a burden. I’m 22 — I’d have just begun heading out into the world.

As for the pressure to know what you want to do with your life — NO ONE KNOWS. In fact, it appears all those who asked me such a question never knew what they wanted to do and in some sense were projecting. Yet now, having spent time being comfortable not knowing, I do know.

As for income,
I don’t know how much money I’ll make next month.
I don’t even know what state I’ll be in.
I didn’t know I was going to New Zealand until 3 weeks ago.

But what I know is that so long as I listen to my gut and stick to what I feel God is guiding me to do,

It will all turn out just fine.

You do not have to live your life like everyone else.
You must be confident in yourself, seek Jesus, and be a good steward, sure — but the rest is yours to choose —

God hears your prayers asking for guidance and clarity, but what if He is simply waiting for you to make a choice?
