Canoeing beneath Mount Denali Alaska

Bryce’s Top Picks

You could say that I have been around the block. In all of my adventures, I’ve had the opportunity to not only research the best products, but also put them to the test. Here are my Top Picks.

  • Hair Care

The hunt for high quality hair products is actually pretty simple: just use Jessicurl. It’s that easy.

Two or three times a week, I wash my hair with the Hair Cleansing Cream followed by Too Shea! Conditioner. I’ll either use a bit of Too Shea! as a leave in conditioner, or if necessary, I’ll use the Deep Conditioning Treatment as leave in — I’ll apply just out of the shower (before drying) and comb through with my fingertips. Scrunch with microfiber towel then wrap to dry.

If you are somewhere dry with low humidity, Hair Cleansing Cream is what you want — the glycerin included will retain moisture. If you are somewhere with high humidity, you want to use Gentle Lather Shampoo instead.

Though there is more that goes into haircare than simply using good products. Equally necessary are the things outside of the shower; a microfiber drying towel, a silk pillowcase, and silk scrunchies (Jessicurls are handmade in the USA).

Yes, I — Bryce C — use a speciality towel, a silk pillowcase, and silk scrunchies. Yes, I have had to explain all of the above to my father.

  • There’s a multitude of apps to help you find campsites or hiking trails — but few come close to being as detailed as onX Offroad. With colored public land boundaries, I never have to worry about where I’m stepping foot. With the 3D map feature, I can see the terrain and trail ahead while finding incredible vantage spots before ever hitting dirt.

Neither do I have to worry about getting lost — one of my first steps on any adventure is to download offline maps of the area in onX.

  • While not an all encompassing list, there is not much unmentioned: suspension, solar, fridge, water, and so on. View the list on Amazon.

My rooftop tent of choice is Roofnest’s Sparrow Eye. The clamshell style is crucial for avoiding hefty winds (face the tent into them), the fiberglass shell is easily repaired in an O’Reilly’s parking lot with some standard epoxy puddy (trust me), and the build quality is far beyond what I imagined when I ft purchased my own.
